Senior Infrastructure and Security Engineer

Direct Report: Group IT Manager

General description

This role involves planning, design, implementation, production support, and maintenance of network, server, storage, and telecommunication infrastructure across various business units, with a strong emphasis on hands-on technical tasks, while ensuring the highest levels of security and compliance. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, excellent problem-solving skills, and a passion for safeguarding organizational assets across the African continent.

Position Overview:

1. Key Responsibilities:

Compliance

• Comply with the Cerba Lancet Africa company policies and procedures.
• Follow the Health, Safety and Environmental regulations.
• Drive the Cerba Lancet Africa values.
• Ensure compliance with all statutory requirements including ISO and human resource requirements.
• Always ensure confidentiality of CLA data.

Security and Compliance

• Collaborate on infrastructure and system security design to ensure compliance with the latest security, privacy, regulatory concerns, and best practices.
• Review vendor materials to evaluate potential security risks and threats.
• Assist in developing and validating technical policies, processes, and procedures for infrastructure security and risk management.

Technical Expertise and Support

• Participate in projects by contributing technical expertise in the architecture and security of various applications and services.
• Provide advanced technical support and troubleshooting for escalated infrastructure, server, network, and security issues.

Security Analysis and Risk Mitigation

• Perform security analysis and review infrastructure (e.g., servers, networks, applications) to identify and mitigate potential risks and vulnerabilities.
• Develop and implement security metrics for infrastructure systems to enhance threat detection and prevention strategies.

Continuous Improvement and Implementation

• Support and manage the implementation and continuous improvement of security systems, including endpoint hardening and patch management.
• Perform any other duties as assigned by the leadership team.

Competencies Required to do the job

Technical Competencies (6-10 Years Experience)

• Experience working with cloud platforms, particularly Microsoft Azure or similar.
• Expertise in container platforms and orchestration tools.
• Proficiency in Linux and Microsoft Server environments.
• Strong understanding of security appliances and IT monitoring tools.

Qualifications

• Relevant certifications such as CISSP, CISM, GSLC, CCISO (ISACA Certification is an advantage).
• Experience with container technologies like Docker and/or Kubernetes.
• Solid experience with enterprise security frameworks (e.g., NIST, HIPAA, ISO) and audit standards like COBIT, including working with both internal and external auditors.
• Proficiency in Linux and Open-Source solutions.
• Degree or diploma in a relevant field such as Computer Science, Information Systems, or related technical discipline.
• Experience in Africa is advantageous and willingness to travel within Africa.
