Clinical Interest
The total cholesterol test is a routine blood test used to measure the amount of cholesterol in the blood. Cholesterol is a type of lipid that is essential for building cells and producing hormones, but high levels can increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases.
The test is used to identify individuals at risk and guide preventive measures.
Clinical Information Required
Fasting_patient
Patient Collection Note
In the absence of known hypertriglyceridaemia, a lipid profile may be taken in non-fasting patients. If hypertriglyceridaemia is discovered, a control sample should be prescribed and taken after a 12-hour fast. In all cases, the patient may drink water.
