Clinical Interest
Infections with Cytomegalovirus (CMV), a member of the herpesvirus family, are common in man and are usually mild and asymptomatic. However, in pregnant women, newborns, and immunocompromised individuals CMV infections may pose a significant medical risk.
The determination of CMV IgG antibodies, can aid in the diagnosis of diseases caused by CMV, is used to assess the serological status of an individual and is indicative of an acute or past infection, together with the detection of CMV IgM.
This is particularly to adopt suitable prophylaxis in susceptible individuals.
